Tree Lighting- Downtown Greensboro

Downtown Greensboro Tree Lighting
5-8 pm, Friday November 30

Join us for a small town holiday celebration in Downtown Greensboro as we flip the switch to light “the big tree” on the Court House Lawn. Hundreds of twinkling lights decorate the streets as downtown shops stay open late to help visitors get started with their holiday shopping. There will be live performances from area choirs throughout the evening. The official Tree Lighting will take place at 6 pm.

Santa will be available for children to visit, there will be an old-fashioned hay ride through town, and your favorite holiday tunes will be sung ‘round the tree! Come early and enjoy “Soups & Sammies” by Washington Grass Inn while local choirs and choral groups preform throughout the evening.

Local organizations and non-profits are invited to participate in the event by offering winter goodies such as hot chocolate, baked goods, or other holiday favorites. Choirs and choral groups are invited to carol the historic downtown throughout the evening. To register your organization, please contact the Better Hometown office at (706) 453-7674.

Reynolds Thanksgiving Traditions

“For many families at Reynolds Plantation, Thanksgiving is not the just one day, it’s the whole weekend. Guests arrive all week and often stay through Sunday, as they enjoy the lake, the golf courses, the special holiday festivities, and most of all, each other. As it has been said so often, “The beauty will bring you here; the people will keep you here.” The holiday season provides a chance for families to share traditions they have brought here, or started here; either way, they are all thankful to be here.”

Reynolds Plantation Improvements

Update from Reynolds Plantation:

“In September our comprehensive approach to enhancing Reynolds Plantation’s award-winning golf experience began with improvements at Great Waters and The Landing. The extensive renovation of Great Waters in 2009-2010 elevated the course itself to an excellent level, which has allowed us to now focus on many of the surrounding facilities. Thus far, over 25,000 square feet of cart paths have been replaced, the comfort stations were completely redesigned and significantly upgraded, brick pavers surrounding the clubhouse area have been repaired, the parking lot has been resurfaced and restriped, and wood repairs and painting have been completed on the exterior of the clubhouse and adjacent structures. We hope that you will agree that as one of the most splendid jewels in our collection, Great Waters golf course is once again shining in all her brilliance.

Simultaneously, a tremendous amount of work has been underway at The Landing golf course. To preserve and respect the integrity of the course’s award-winning design, we felt it essential to consult with the original designers, Bob Cupp and Billy Fuller, in developing the renovation plan. Will O’Steen has returned in the position of Golf Course Maintenance Construction Manager and is overseeing the work. At the time of this letter’s writing, work is 90-95% complete on holes one through six, which includes reshaping the bunkers back to their original forms, removal of a few bunkers, expanding some of the tee boxes by 30-40%, adding forward tees where appropriate, and trimming or removing trees that have encroached upon the course over time. When complete, the result will be a golf experience that continues to provide an enjoyable challenge for the more experienced players while offering enhanced playability for casual golfers, juniors and mid-to-high handicappers.

In addition to the improvements on the golf courses, new initiatives are underway throughout the community. At the Lake Club, the clay tennis courts have been resurfaced. Our dining establishments will be adding new staff in culinary and front-of-house positions. The Ritz-Carlton Lodge will undergo a renovation of all guest rooms and corridors this winter, a project that will be complete in time to welcome guests for the 2013 Masters Tournament. “
