Lake Oconee Academy was recently selected by TheBestSchools.org as one of the TOP 50 PUBLIC ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS IN THE UNITED STATES, including the US Department of Defense schools around the world. LOA ranked #38 out of approximately 70,000 US public elementary schools throughout the nation and abroad. Only schools that include grades 3-5 were considered for this list, and the ranking focused solely on the scores and achievements of the third, fourth, and fifth grades. The schools on this list also pay attention to “variety, innovation, fun, and strong parental and community involvement.”
In addition to receiving this honor, LOA also received the Blue Ribbon Award for 2014 from the Department of Education. In order to be selected for this award, schools must apply and qualify. Schools cannot reapply for five years, so obtaining this award is a significant achievement, as only 300 schools, out of thousands that apply, receive the coveted Blue Ribbon Award each year.
Lake Oconee Academy is a tuition-free, public charter school available to the residents of Greene County. All prospective students must apply and are chosen through a lottery. It currently offers grades PK – 9th, and will expand to 12th grade by the 2017-2018 school year.
